Welcome To Fresh Talking Speech Therapy!

Fresh Talking Speech Therapy is a private paediatric speech therapy practice that aims to support children with the assessment and treatment of speech, language and developmental disorders and delays. We aim to support families with functional and practical strategies that can be utilised at home or in education settings that will help the child to transfer skills learned within the clinic into other environments.

We provide a child and family centred practice, supporting families and carers with their children’s speech, oral and social language needs. We offer evidence-based services to children and families throughout Melbourne. We offer tailored, individualised services based on the child’s needs, the family goals, and the impact on the child’s ability to access their community resources.

Services We Provide

Assessment

At Fresh Talking Speech Therapy, we know that gathering information through observation and assessment will help your child. We will determine an assessment plan based on your child’s age and developmental level. Assessment may take place in a variety of forms, from informal play-based observations to evidence-based, standardized assessment tools. It involves listening to your concerns, your child’s unique story, and understanding their strengths, challenges, and opportunities.

We provide assessment for children aged 0-18 in the following areas:

  • Speech/articulation assessment: Difficulty producing sounds in speech, leading to challenges in being understood by peers or in the classroom. Common issues include sound substitutions, lisps, or unclear speech.
  • Oral language assessment: Difficulty understanding and following verbal instructions, finding the right words when talking, or producing coherent short sentences.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment: Utilizing various diagnostic tools and interview techniques to understand your child’s strengths and challenges for an informed diagnosis, in conjunction with your Paediatrician.
  • Educational assessment: For additional support at school, kindergarten, or childcare, an up-to-date assessment and report meeting education system guidelines may be necessary.
  • Fluency assessment: Assessment for stuttering, preparing for therapy to diagnose fluency disorders in young children.

Therapy

At Fresh Talking Speech Therapy we understand that all children require individualised support.

We aim to support children aged 0-7 with building on and developing their skills in speech and oral language. We provide a child and family-centred approach in our practice, supporting families and carers with tailored and individualised services, based on the child’s needs. We used evidence-based therapy approaches and encourage education centres and families to implement strategies learned in the clinic to further support in the home and education setting.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

At Fresh Talking Speech Therapy, we know that ‘to know one child with Autism, is to know one child with Autism”.

We can provide support to you in the area of parent/carer education, assessment, diagnosis, therapy and strategy support for ASD. If your child has difficulty with any of the following early developmental areas, we can assist you in navigating your understanding of ASD to best support your child:

  • Reduced back-and-forth babbling/conversation
  • Reduced imitation of sounds
  • Reduced combination of different modes of communication e.g. vocalisation, eye contact,
facial expression and gesture at the same time
  • Reduced responsiveness to name
  • Limited eye contact
  • Reduced use of gestures, like pointing
  • Reduced ability to initiate interactions
  • Repetitive and restrictive behaviours and play sequences
  • Rigidity around routines
  • Reduced prosody and intonation
  • Sensory processing challenges e.g. fear of loud noises like singing happy birthday, seeking outor avoiding tactile experiences and smelling/mouthing non-food items

Community, Education and Support

At Fresh Talking Speech Therapy, we know that it takes a village to raise a child.

We can provide community visits to observe and support your child at their childcare centre, kindergarten or school. We understand that multifaceted support for your child will best help them to achieve their speech and language goals.

If you are an education setting: childcare, kindergarten or school, we can come and speak to your staff group about all things speech, oral language and communication. We can provide a tailored presentation to your facility, to build on previous training in the hopes that we increase early identification and intervention of speech and language delays and disorders within our community.
